Feeling Settled

Today I woke up feeling settled.

This is strange considering we moved yesterday.

And even stranger considering what the house currently looks like....boxes everywhere...furniture in the wrong rooms...piles of random stuff....old curtains that are not ours hanging on the windows still. Seriously...here are some pictures:

But yet, I do feel settled in a way. Content.

This is the 8th home Tom and I have lived in together...and we celebrate our 8 year anniversary in just a few weeks.

But we bought this one.

Sidenote: How does anyone move with family and a church family around? Between the help we had moving heavy things...setting up beds, cleaning, watching our kids....and so much more...I am just not quite sure how anyone can possibly do these things alone! Thank you Jesus for the people in our lives!

We could live here forever. I am not crazy enough to say that we definitely will because you never know where God will lead us but still, just knowing that it is ours and we can stay makes it so different.

I can unpack one box at a time and PUT IT AWAY! I am not trying to think of how I can store things in a way that will be easy to move them next year. I can take my time trying to figure out where exactly I want things because there is no rush to make it feel like home....

....it is home and in many ways, I already feel settled....not organized...but settled.

There is NOTHING wrong with renting...especially in the area where we live in NY where the Taxes are ridiculously high. God had an amazing plan for us in renting for the last 8 years that allowed Tom to get his degree without us having to fix house problems or take care of a lawn and each step and job and place we have lived has led us to this point. We feel very clear on that and that this is the home that God has for us now.

So....I feel settled. Settled in God's grace. Settled in contentment. I pray that I can keep that feeling and knowing that God's plan is ALWAYS better than mine.

I heard this song on the radio this morning and the chorus describes how I feel....and the first verse really describes how I have been feeling without realizing how much I longed to feel settled. Today is Day One of the rest of my life....Day One of the BEST of my life.

To go or not to go....

This week has been a whirlwind. Sunday night, we got a phone call that a good friend (who we were meeting for the first part of our vacation) is really sick and unable to go so we were going to need to change our plans. Although we were really sad about noit seeing their family, we knew that our plans were fairly flexible and we could rearrange our visit.

However Monday morning, we took our van in to have what we thought would be 1 part replaced and it ended up costing a LOT more than we had planned....because of more problems. I guess that is life with an old vehicle. Sigh.

Then...we get the dreaded phone call that the house we are in the process of buying did not assess for enough to get the mortgage we needed. We wouldn't know for a week or so what would be happening with that and we were originally scheduled to close before July 15th.

Ok Lord...what are you trying to do to us?!?!? haha

I just kept on praying and asking the Lord to make it clear whether He was trying to stop us from leaving or if these were just stumbing blocks that were being placed in our way to keep us from a MUCH needed time away as a family.

The devotional that I read that morning from Proverbs 31 ministries was literally titled "What to do When Life becomes turbulent?"

These are the reflect and respond questions from that devotional:

1. Am I shrinking back in fear and discouragement or am I drawing closer to God’s presence?
2. Do I really believe God is in control of this situation?
3. Am I going to worry or trust God — believing He will get me through this?
4. How can I look for God’s goodness and glory in the midst of my challenge?

I guess it could not have been better timed because my normally anxious self was very calm throughout the day and I just kept on feeling like we were supposed to go on this vacation.
We hadn't been away from home as a family for over 2 years and just really felt like our kids needed that time away from the chaos with us.

Well....it worked out. We realize whether we are home or not, we cannot control the situation with the house. We need to let God be in control of whether we should be in that home or not.  Our vacation was not going to be expensive in the first place because we are staying with different poeple at their houses for all but 2 nights and I had already gotten great deals on hotel rooms that had been paid for months ago.

So...tomorrow mid morning, we shall head out, Lord willing!

Setting Goals

A few weeks ago, I didn't complete my Community Bible Study lesson so I decided to catch up this morning and complete it. God's timing is always perfect and I know that He wanted me to read this lesson today. We are studying the book of Mark and it has been amazing to read the same things that I have read so many times throughout my life and see them in a new light.

Today, one verse in particular stuck out to me.

I am someone who is constantly setting goals for myself...sometimes unrealistic ones...but always things that I really want to be successful with.

When struggling, I often think of a verse that my dad had me memorize when he was my Sunday School teacher in elementary school.

It has always been a great reminder that God gives us that nothing is impossible with him. but this morning, I was reminded that it isn't just that we can do all things with Him....we really can't do anything without Him. The verse from Mark 11 reminds me that these "goals" or "plans" that I have for myself need to be committed to Him in prayer before I even start. They need to be the things that God wants me to be working on, not things that I think I should be working on.

How often do we turn to Jesus when we are in times of need, rather than trusting Him with the situation before we even start?

As I begin my year of Simplify, one thing I have changed already is trying to let God lead my goals. I already am sure of a couple of areas that he wants my heart to be changed and I already feel more successful knowing that they are from His leading, rather than my own.

Simplify

Happy New Year! I guess I've taken a bit of a hiatus...for several reasons...but mostly just because life was busy. Well...here we are...in a new year and with that always brings thoughts of what kinds of things we want to change or do differently.

As I look back at 2014, It was a great year. A busy year. A complicated year. We moved.....twice. Tom Graduated and started a new job. There were so many unknowns. I feel very much like it was a year that ended 5 years of chaos! Good chaos...but chaos none the less.

So, I decided to join the bandwagon and coin a term that I hope will define my 2015. Simplify. It looks like we will stay in our current home for a while....or at least until sometime in 2016 (though....I guess you never know). With Tom done with homework and classes, we have a little more time to spend as a family and work on projects that we have been putting off.

I hope that this year allows us to rid ourselves of clutter, organize the basement, get rid of things we don't use or need, keep our schedules manageable, spend good quality time with our children and most importantly, put the Lord first in everything we are doing.

So, to put some numbers on my hopes, my goal for this year is to get rid of at least  10 items a week from my house. So...by this time next year, we will be down at least 520 things!

It is a simple goal....one that Tom can help with. One that is realistic and that I believe I can be successful at. One that my children will take part in and benefit from. One that will make my house simpler to keep up with.

If there are times that I feel anxious or stressed, it is my goal to really try to simplify the situation that is making it that way.

All in all, I feel like as a society we are encouraged to basically stress out our families, whether it be too many commitments, financial stressors or expectations. And really...what is the point of this life that God gave us, if we are not enjoying the many blessings that God has given us.

I am not going to commit to posting about this on a certain schedule (because that would not be simplifying) but I do hope to keep you updated on my progress.

So, I encourage you to jump on board and simplify with me....or find something that can define your year! Share in the comments what your "word" is this year...I would love to hear it!

Many blessings to you and your family in this New Year!

I Couldn't Protect Them

We are a homeschooling family. Some of you might think that means we shelter them. In some ways I agree. For us, it is a matter of letting them experience life as we feel they are ready to experience certain situations.

THAT IS NOT TO JUDGE HOW YOU RAISE YOUR FAMILY.

This is what we feel is right for our family.

But, as much as we try to protect them, we can't always...especially because we choose to be involved in many various activities each week where Tom and I are not with our kids....though we know who is!

This week, at one of the places that we go weekly (that I LOVE LOVE LOVE), Libby was playing with a friend who told her about a monster that lives in her friends basement. She apparently went into a lot of detail and I am not entirely sure how they even had time to have this conversation. I was not in her class with her.

She was terrified.

She asked me about it all day long. I tried to brush it off and not make a big deal out of it in hopes that she wouldn't make to big of a deal out of it.

But then bedtime came....and there was a lot of crying and screaming. She was so scared and I have never felt so bad in my life.

We prayed. We sang songs. She started to calm down but was NOT going to let me leave her room.

And then her sweet sister (who fights with her daily, I might add), invited her to sleep in her bed.

Instant cure. Instant cuteness.

I've never been so happy that my kids have siblings. I have never been so glad that they share a room.

This might be permanent and I don't even care.

Its so cute. I am not sure how a twin bed looks so roomy.

As a mother, I want so badly to protect my children and the reality is that sometimes I can't. So, when we can't protect them, we need to do our best to make them feel safe.

I feel like we had just recovered from The Shed incident and now it will start over.

Isn't it supposed to be the baby that keeps me awake at night?

A Four Year Old's Question

Bedtime around here can be...well...a nightmare. haha. It is often filled with children thinking of ways to stay up later. Thinking of things that they NEED to do before turning out the light. Baby crying because he is put to bed in a different room and then hears chaos ensue in the room next door.

Usually at least one kid gets out of bed after we leave the room and tries to stall just a bit longer. You know...the usual.

Don't get me wrong. It CAN be filled with the good stuff too. Sweet Prayer time and songs about Jesus together. Hugs and Kisses galore and heavenly "I love You's".

But mostly, bedtime itself makes me exhausted.

Sometimes God give you those wonderful surprises, right when you need them though.

Tonight, after bedtime, we heard the girls door open and someone head to the bathroom...ok...no big deal. After that, the footsteps tiptoed over near the stairs. Tom headed over and Libby said, "Daddy, I was just going potty, but what does Redeemed mean?"

What an amazing question from our four year old. He took her back to bed and explained to her. (I have no idea what he said but he was gone a while).

She had heard a song on the radio that was stuck in her head and wanted to know what she was singing about.

I LOVE IT!

Parents, please understand that your little ones hear everything that is near them. Understand that their little hearts are open to hear and learn what they are surrounded by. I am so thankful that she was asking about redemption and not something horrid.

What a wonderful Bedtime stall tactic. If You only knew, sweet Libby Grace, you could stay up late every night asking questions like that.

By Your Side...Even When We Fail.

This was a rough week for so many reasons. I won't go into any details but as you can imagine, life with 4 little ones, a husband who has a new job and can never take time off, not too many breaks....and because I am human, with human husband and four little human children! I definitely failed this week on so many levels.

But this song just kept me going. It seemed to come on the radio every time I needed to hear it....and it got stuck in my head. So, I thought I'd share.

I love the way that I can imagine Jesus talking to me. Lifting up my face. Reminding me that I cannot run or hide. He is enough. I need to stop fighting His hands that are holding me and when I do. Oh how life improves!

By Your Side--Tenth Avenue North

Why are you striving these days
Why are you trying to earn grace
Why are you crying
Let me lift up your face
Just don't turn away

Why are you looking for love
Why are you still searching
As if I'm not enough
To where will you go child
Tell me where will you run
To where will you run

'Cause I'll be by your side wherever you fall
In the dead of night whenever you call
And please don't fight these hands that are holding you
My hands are holding you

Look at these hands at my side
They swallowed the grave on that night
When I drank the world's sin
So I could carry you in
And give you life
I want to give you life

And I'll be by your side wherever you fall
In the dead of night whenever you call
And please don't fight these hands that are holding you
My hands are holding you

Here at my side wherever you fall
In the dead of night whenever you call
And please don't fight these hands that are holding you
My hands are holding you

'Cause I, I love you
I want you to know
That I, yeah I'll love you
I'll never let you go, no, no

And I'll be by your side wherever you fall
In the dead of night whenever you call
And please don't fight these hands that are holding you
My hands are holding you

Here at my side wherever you fall
In the dead of night whenever you call
And please don't fight these hands that are holding you
My hands are holding you
Here at my side, my hands are holding you
Ohhh...

Don't Burn Out!

It seems like every where I am lately, I am being reminded to "not burn out".  It must be something that God wants to drill into my head. haha.

I think it is something that, as a mom, is always a great reminder. Especially living in the time we live in.

There is so much pressure to be involved in EVERYTHING. Partially because there are a ton of great things available to us now.

My grandma tells me how it was when she was a young mom and I remember what it was like when my mom stayed home with us (from a kids perspective, of course).

They were NOT involved in organized play groups and moms support groups or even Bible studies that incorporated a children's program. In fact, most of the time they didn't even have a car to go anywhere at all.

They may have gotten together with neighbors for coffee and they definitely sent the kids out to play in the neighborhood (unfortunately, we live in a crazy sinful world and really can't do that anymore).

I am in NO WAY saying life was easier because in many ways, I think that women used to feel much more alone than we do and we've been blessed with some pretty helpful modern day appliances/technology! Also...we seriously don't have to iron every work shirt and pants for our hubbies...well most of us don't! Haha

We have support. Some of us have husbands who are extremely involved in caring for our kids and helping with the house. We have the internet to get creative ideas and to read blogs about how other moms feel the same way that we do. We can easily glean helpful ideas from others in the same boat.

But, we also live in a time where we feel the pressure to keep up with the world. We take it upon ourselves to feel like our kids need to be smarter, better, healthier, and more "well rounded". We feel inadequate.

Well...mommy...give yourself a break. I am trying to.

It is a different life for everyone, certainly, but take time to evaluate your limits. How many days do you really want to be out of the house each week? Is your schedule stressing you out? Your kids out? Your husband?

Is the playgroup that is stressing you out going to matter to your child when they are in high school? Probably not!

I don't want my kids to look back at their childhood and remember all of the activities they were in and how crazy I was trying to get them there.

I don't want them to look back and think. "Wow...mom really let me do lots of things and go lots of places."

I want them to remember me....and smile :)

I also don't ever want to forget how precious they are.

Are you conforming?

So, this post has been swirling around in my head for a while but I wasn't sure how to write it down in a way that makes sense, so here goes!

I often hear people say that they would not want to be a "Christian" because it means they would have to follow a strict set of rules. They would have to "conform" so to speak to live life a certain way. It has come up a LOT lately and being the person that I am, I never have the right thing to say in the moment. However, it has led me to spend quite a deal of time thinking, praying, reading and listening on the subject.

The thing is, believing in the one true God is freeing. I don't and never have felt trapped in some sort of world that doesn't allow me to think or act freely. But I have grace that no other religion out there offers.

God gave each person a conscience to know the difference between right and wrong. Being a Christian doesn't make robbing a bank any more or less wrong. Being a Christian doesn't make murdering someone any more or less wrong. Wrong is wrong. Sin is sin.

I find more and more that NON Believers are the ones conforming. Trying to be accepted by this world, their friends and family.

Romans 12:2 says " Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."

You want to fit in. You want to be loved and ultimately, you want acceptance.

So, why does Christianity take all of the slack for following a set of rules? As a Christian, I actually think the goal is to be set apart. Different from anyone else. So....why in this world full of people claiming to want to be different, don't they turn to Jesus?

And besides that. I have yet to meet another Christian who sees eye to eye with me on everything...we are not all the same. haha.

The Bible has been the most freeing thing in my life. It teaches me and is a resource for me to turn to for guidance. I have never felt stuck in a set of rules, but more guided and protected from things that could hurt me physically and emotionally.

If you are reading this and don't know who God is, I urge you to check this out.

I mean...what is the purpose of life without Jesus?

Ok...end of rant.

Letting Them Thrive

Two years ago, I entered into the Perinton Rec Center having no clue what I was getting myself into. Since Keira turned 2, I always had her signed up for a little class with her peers as a way to keep her busy and socialize...and let's be honest....to give myself a 45 minute break!

This time, it was a 6 week beginner class for Irish Step Dancing. 2 years later, we are in a much different place than I ever imagined.

From the first class, she was hooked. She started skip-two-three-ing everywhere we went. Through the house, the grocery store, church....wherever!

Of course, I signed her up for the next 6 week session. It was then that we found out that her teacher, Amy, who we love, was opening up her own studio. It seemed like no big deal. We signed her up. The class was a few minutes further down the road but at the same time. She was 4 years old so we weren't going to get carried away.

Now, let me digress for a moment and tell you that although I would never have imagined being enthralled in this, I am completely loving it. I have fallen in love with the culture of Irish dance and absolutely LOVE the way that Amy runs her studio. It is an extremely modest form of dance. There are no words in the music that I don't want her to hear (I rarely hear any words at all with the dance music actually) and never any provocative movements. Her studio is run like a family and if you are ever considering your child (girl or boy) getting into Irish dance, I cannot say anything about other studios but Dunleavy Irish Dance in East Rochester is amazing.

Ok...that was my plug for the studio.

Well...last July. A little less than  a year after she began, she participated in her first Feis which is a competition. Because she was ready and because she WANTED to!

I learned how to curl her hair the right way. (She has to sleep with these babies in her hair!)

On July 13, 2013 she danced her Beginner Jig and won 2nd place. I will never forget what she said on the way home. "Mommy, next time, I hope I win 3rd!"

Only a child who has no idea what competition really is would say that.

In the fall, she added her Beginner Reel and competed in two dances. She got her wish and took 3rd in both.

Feis season starts in the spring. We get to choose which ones she will participate in and competing is NOT REQUIRED. Of course she told me that this year she would like to do 20....ha! I think when all is said and done, she will do 5 this year.

We went to Syracuse in April where she danced her Advanced Beginner Reel and Jig. She took 1st in her Reel and 3rd in her Jig. She also had a hair cut and got to use more colorful curlers. In her mind, it helped her sleep better!

We also signed her up for a Feis in Buffalo and made a day of it to visit Tom's grandparents. She placed 3rd in her Reel and 2nd in her Jig.

A Couple of weeks ago, she was part of the Rochester Feis again and this time added her Slip Jig. (For me, every time we add a dance, it makes it more worth the hours of hair curling!)

This is the Feis that made me the most proud I've ever been of my Keira girl. Her 3 danced were one right after the other. The way these competitions work is that they line each child who is dancing up and they all stand at the back of the stage together. Then, three at at time, they come out, do their dance, bow, and go back to their spot. They are supposed to dance with 2 kids from different schools so they are not doing the same steps.

Let me also say that in order to move up to be a novice, you must place in all three of these dances at some point in the Feis season, then, the next year, you move up a level. (That is about all I know at this point myself!)

So, she got up, danced her Reel, no problem.

Then came the Jig. Where she ended up dancing at the same time as one of her classmates who is also an excellent dancer. Keira watched her the whole time. Later she said. "Mom, I did all of my steps, I just wanted to see her do hers too!" So cute.

Then the Slip Jig. Her new dance. The one that stood between her and her "fancy dress" (the dress made in Ireland special for her school when you move to Novice). She started beautifully. Halfway through, she stopped. Frozen. Looked like she might cry. Of course I got all teared up for her. Then, she jumped back in, finished at the right time, bowed and took her place in line.

I had been prepared for this moment. All along, all we have said to her is that she should have fun and do her best. Everyone will mess up sometimes and you just have to keep going.

When she came off the stage, she said. "I messed up. But it's ok because I will just try again next time."

I wanted to give her the world in that moment. What a maturity for a six year old!

Well. She placed 2nd. She also got 3rd in her Reel. (no placement for the Jig where she watched her friend dance instead, haha)

Although I am unsure she deserved the medal for her steps, she certainly deserved it for her attitude. I have absolutely no idea what the judges judge on or what she should or should not be doing. I know that she made a mistake but I also know that it is a big deal to start and end on time and her form during the rest of the dance was great. It all looks cute to me.

I also have no idea how we are going to afford the dress we have to buy this year but we will find a way. We will find a way because we want our daughter to thrive. We want her to push on toward her goals. To work hard. To persevere. As beautiful as this type of dance looks to me, it is also great exercise, an awesome team building experience and our entire family is enjoying her participation in this sport....so we will find a way to let her continue....

...because we want to let her thrive!

Letting Others Teach

The main reason that we decided to homeschool our children is that we want to be the ones teaching them. We want our kids to look to us first (after God, of course) as their examples in life. I want to know what they are learning, what they are being exposed to and be the first one to answer their questions when they don't understand something that they see in the World. God called our family to this for these reasons.

However, I find it completely wonderful that we have a church where I can trust that my kids are learning straight from the Bible. They are making wonderful friends there and have absolutely LOVED their Sunday School and church time teachers. I feel like what we are teaching them at home is being reinforced when they are with these teachers. One of my favorite things is when one of my kids comes home from church and says something like, "mommy, we learned about the same story that daddy told us last night!" Wow...how awesome God is.

If you don't have a church like that, I highly recommend finding one. If you are in the Rochester area, come check out ours sometime (Perinton Community Church) or find us on facebook here.

Okay...enough of the promo for my church...that isn't what this was supposed to be about.

This week was Vacation Bible School at another nearby church. It is the church where we are a part of a co-op for home schooling and also a church that in the past has done a lot of activities with our church. To hear my children recite their memory verses each day and be so excited for what they are learning is awesome. What a great way to spend a week of summer "break".

Keira participated last year. This year, Libby was old enough to join her in the fun. Some great truths were reinforced for my kids in fun ways this week at the "International Spy Academy"!

Last night, we were able to go and watch their classes sing some of the songs they learned....Keira was in the back row so we could barely see her, but they were so excited!

It was really strange not having my older two at home and I realized how much help they are to me with the little ones. Without even trying they are a source of entertainment and at 6 and 4 years old, they naturally take things away from Levi that they know he shouldn't have.

I am so glad for what they have learned this week...but can't wait to have them home with me again each morning....errrr....next week starts swimming lessons....oh well.

My Perfect Life: Part 2

If you haven't read My Perfect Life: Part 1, this is a continuation....sort of.
:
6:50 am:  The 2 year old starts knocking (loudly) on her door. One of us jumps out of bed as quickly as possible and tries to convince to her to back to sleep....because no one is allowed out of bed before 7!

Tom gets ready, makes himself a protein shake while I grab a shower and throw something clean on. All of the kids are up now because of course she woke the whole house. I quickly throw bowls of cereal and cups of juice in front of the 3 oldest while I make the baby a bottle and feed him.

8:30 am: Kids are arguing about wanting the same toy. Baby poops up his back (again) and requires a new outfit and a bath. The 2 year old won't let me out of sight and while I am not looking, the two oldest turn on the computer and start watching Netflix.

9:30am: I just finished the dishes (from this morning AND last night) and need to start doing school with the girls...oh no...the girls have been watching shows for an hour already! whoops!

11:00 am: We somehow managed to get through all of the necessary preschool and Kindergarten worksheets while the baby napped....but not without 4 timeouts and the 2 year old coloring all over the wall.

11:30 am: Feeling frantic, this is when I realize that I have not prayed yet or read any part of the bible. Maybe I can read something quick on the ipad. Then, I pray while I am preparing lunch. A lunch that no one wants to eat despite it being EXACTLY what they asked for!

1:00pm: 2 year old naptime...aka...Heaven. Force the 6 year old read to me for 15 minutes. It takes 30 minutes because of all of the fighting.

2:00 pm: The 4 year old forgets about her sister sleeping and goes into their bedroom for a toy. End Naptime. Grumpiness begins by all....including mommy.

3:00 pm: ooops...forgot to take the meat out for dinner. Maybe it will thaw quicker if I put it in water.

4:00 pm: Crazy time. Everybody needs mommy for no good reason at all. Dinner needs to be made but the baby needs to eat and we need to get the 6 year old ready for dance class. The 4 year old doesn't want to wear shoes and mommy just wants to lock herself in the bathroom for 5 minutes of peace and quiet. But this is when I realize that we were supposed to return the library books.

5:00 pm: Daddy comes home. Mommy runs away.

haha....ok, this is clearly an exaggeration (or maybe it isn't) of my day. Sometimes it feels like this though. I know so clearly how I want my day to go and yet, I don't always start my day with Jesus. If I did, it wouldn't necessarily mean that everything else went perfect, but it always helps.

It is having this image of what a perfect day is that makes me a feel like a failure. It is the pressure that I put on myself of what my life should look like that make it feel so impossible to be a great mom and wife.

But, it just isn't real. The real me is exactly the way that God made me. He made this life just for me. Despite the days that I feel crazy and completely unglued, I love it. I am so in love with my husband. I love my children more than I ever thought possible. I love homeschooling. I love planning. I love it. It is a mess...but it is my beautiful mess.

Maybe your life isn't as chaotic as mine...or maybe its worse. No matter the circumstance, let's try to encourage each other as mommies that we CAN do it. We can do it the way that God wants us to. We can give our days to Him and then do our best.

Philippians 4:13 says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

Tomorrow...when the knocking starts, I need to recite that verse and start my day by serving the Lord by serving my family. Join me, will you?

My Perfect Life: Part 1

Every morning, I wake up and before I even open my eyes, I pray. "Lord, help me to be a woman for You today. Let me share my faith with anyone and everyone that I come in contact with and let me be the wife and mom that shows Christ in everything I do.

Then, I get out of bed,  get myself a cup of coffee and settle in for a good hour of quiet prayer time and bible reading. Thirty minutes of exhilarating exercise comes next, then I quickly take a shower (and shave my legs of course) and do my hair and make up, quietly of course, so as not to disturb my husband and children who are still sleeping.

A little while later, the husband and children awake to a hot breakfast on the table. I sit with the family and feed the baby. I'll eat my fruit and cottage cheese later.

Then the hubby heads out to work and the kids happily play while I do the dishes and clean the kitchen. We manage to get all of our homeschooling done as well as some time at the playground all before lunch.

My kids eat a perfectly balanced lunch with no complaining and then the babies settle in for naps while I spend time reading to my oldest two girls. Then, they help me with the laundry and go to back to playing while I scrub the bathrooms.

After naps, we have a healthy snack and I start dinner prep while the children have their 30 minutes of screen time...where of course, they all choose the same show to watch. PERFECT!

The hubs comes home to a hot meal on the table that tastes perfect and we all sit down and have a lovely conversation about our day.

After dinner, I do the dishes while the kids play with daddy. Then, we spend some time playing worship songs and singing together.

The kids get their baths and off to bed they go. Family devotions and then lights out. The hubby and I spend some time talking about our plans and then spend some good time reading and praying together before we turn in for the night.

The house is clean and peaceful and we all go to sleep with smiles on our faces.

The real title to this post should be, "Why I always feel like a failure", because it would be a BIG, FAT, SCARY, LIE to say that this is what happens on a daily basis...or ever for that matter. So wait for Part 2 of My Perfect Life to come in just a couple of days to find out reality!

Five Minute Friday: Messenger

Today's Five Minute Friday word is: Messenger. This is a link up with Lisa-Jo. I will write for 5 minutes with no editing. Just five minutes of my thoughts.

Go:

When I first heard the word, "Messenger", it took me a minute to figure out what I thought. In fact, I almost skipped it altogether and just didn't write today.

And then it dawned on me. Messenger. This is what I am supposed to be. This is what God has called me to.

A messenger for Him. To spread the word of God. And once again, I almost shied away.
How often does God call us to something and we are too scared...too nervous...too afraid of what others might think and it keeps us from doing the most important thing that we can do. If we are truly loving those around us, than we should be sharing God's Word.

I often think about how excited we get to share our good news with people. Engagements, pregnancies, jobs, graduations, birthdays, promotions, new homes...etc. We should be even more excited to share THE "Good News".

So...join me today...be a messenger.

STOP.

The Power of His Love

I have recently been reminded that sometimes people can only see what they want to see in you. If someone wants to find fault with me, they will not have to look too far. And when someone looks deep into my soul, they will find a sinner. Because that is what I am. I am a sinner. A Sinner who is trying to love others and be as sinless as I can...which is impossible. It is a losing battle, but one that I need to fight daily. I am a sinner who cares deeply for my family. My Friends. My acquaintances. I am a sinner who longs to make everyone happy. I am sinner who loves Jesus. I love people. I want to do the best I can (though sometimes take on too much).

I will never claim to be perfect. In fact, most days, I feel like a failure. I am a sinner who would never intentionally hurt anyone. I am a work in progess. I am God's work in progess.

I am not a mind reader. I am a mother. A wife. A daughter. A Sister. A friend.

A sinner.

I might not know God's plan for my tomorrow, but I know He has one.

And I am not alone. You are a sinner too. (gasp!). But, friend. He has a plan for you too! People will come and go. Even people that you never thought would but He does not. Our Heavenly Father, was, is and is to come.

We sang this song at church this morning. It is older but the words have always been some of my favorite lyrics. After an exhausting weekend, I needed this today and God knew it. May you know the renewal of Jesus today. May you be led by the Spirit and find joy in each new morning.

The Power of Your Love, by Geoff Bullock

Lord I come to You, Let my heart be changed, renewed
Flowing from the grace that I've found in You
And Lord I've come to know the weaknesses I see in me
Will be stripped away by the power of Your love

Hold me close, Let Your love surround me
Bring me near, Draw me to Your side
And as I wait, I'll rise up like the eagle
And I will soar with You, Your spirit leads me on
In the power of Your love

Lord unveil my eyes, Let me see You face to face
The knowledge of Your love as You live in me
And Lord renew my mind as Your will unfolds in my life
In living every day by the power of Your love

Five Minute Friday: Close

Today's Five Minute Friday word is Close. For more information on what Five Minute Friday is, check out Lisa-Jo's blog and it explains more....basically...Five minutes of unedited writing on a certain word or phrase. So here's my five minutes today:

The word close has so many different meanings to me. The first thing that comes to mind is my relationship with my children. I want to be close to them, I want them to be close to me. My hope is that they will share with me and I with them and that we will always feel comfortable in that way.

I love to be physically close to them as well...the snuggles I get daily are amazing. Baby boy LOVES to be held and often nuzzles his face into my neck and shoulder. He pulls my face to his and gives me sloppy baby kisses and I can't get enough of it. My girls each need their own snuggle time with me too. Often, we read together all snuggled up on the couch.

Sometimes I find that when they are especially grumpy or whiny, really all they need is some time on my lap.

I pray that as sisters and brother, they remain close to each other through the years and always have an encouraging relationship with each other.

Of course, I have my moments each and every day where "close" starts to feel like I am being smothered and I have to take a deep breath and remember how wonderful these snuggles really are and someday I will miss them!

Worship Wednesday: Your Great Name

This has been a song that is comforting to me, especially as I have truly seen how evil can penetrate into our lives so easily. This is kind of the other side of my post The Deceiver

At His GREAT NAME, nothing else matters. Lost are saved.

Condemned feel no shame.

Fear has No place.

The enemy HAS to leave.

The weak find their strength.

Hungry souls receive grace.

Fatherless find rest

Sick are healed.

Dead are raised.

Simply Amazing. All the world WILL praise His name. I can't wait!
